Lunet — configuration tool for switches and routers

Lunet, the municipal network in Luleå, needed to upgrade its network to offer gigabit services to homes, among other goals. Roughly 1,400 access switches were to be replaced.

To simplify this, Abundo built the management tool Cometes, which integrates with NetAdmin, generates configuration files from database data, and auto-configures access switches as well as parts of the distribution switches.

Results

• Simplicity — access switches could be taken straight from stock and installed. On boot they pull configuration from the network, saving time compared with pre-configuration.
• Integration — Cometes syncs with DNS and monitoring so new access switches are registered automatically.
