Pite Energi — support system integration

To simplify management of routers, switches, and physical and virtual machines, several support systems were integrated. When a device is created, changed, or removed in e.g. BECS/Netbox, monitoring (LibreNMS/Icinga), Oxidized (configuration backup), and DNS (forward and reverse lookups) are updated automatically.

Results

• Simplicity — no configuration files to update by hand and no services to restart. Work is done in web UIs.
• Lower risk of errors — systems stay in sync; new devices are not forgotten and old ones are cleaned up when deleted.

Technology

Apache, Django, Python, and RabbitMQ are among the technologies used. The code is open source and available on GitHub.
